When you start your low carb diet, you have to totally rethink the way you eat. Your first trip to the grocery store can be a little overwhelming, and possibly time-consuming. After all, do you know how to find food low in carbs?
The Basics
You probably already know what the basic food low in carbs is for a low carb diet--meat, cheese and eggs. And that can be fun for awhile. You can have omelets, quiches, steaks....the options go on and on. But believe it or not, that can get old and boring after awhile. At the very least, sticking to just these three basics might get you through the induction phase of your low carb diet. But what do you do when you inevitably start to crave something sweet? Well, there us food low in carbs that fits that bill.
First of all, you could have a low carb bar. Some low carb bars are meal replacement bars and they're very high in protein. They also tend to be high in calories, and watching your calorie intake on a low carb diet is just as important as ever. (That's another reason you have to watch how much or what kind of meat you eat.) Now, does a low carb bar taste like a Snicker's bar? Not likely, so don't get your hopes up. But it can satisfy your craving.
Another way to satisfy a sweet craving is by having a low carb "shake." Most low carb shakes aren't all that "shake-like" in consistency. In fact, most have the consistency of water. Some are thicker than that though, almost like skim milk. Most are better cold, but you can buy them and drink them at room temperature.
Both low carb shakes and low carb bars are considered food low in carbs, and they're great for when you need a meal on the run because they can be meal replacements and you can consume them on the go.

However, you can have things like sugar-free gelatin, diet sodas, etc. Once you're out of induction, you might be pleasantly surprised to find a lot of new low carb foods on the market in the market! But be careful and read your labels--most foods that are low in carbs are higher in calories and fat to compensate. Earlier on this page we referred to calorie counting.
