Low Carbohydrates

With all the foods out there, and the push to eat healthier, are foods with low carbohydrates much better than the other foods out there? What's the nutritional value, if any? Why are diets using food with low carbohydrates so big right now? Diets like the Atkins diet promote not eating a certain amount of carbs because it's healthier. Most people take it one step further and make it a lifestyle and not just a diet. Many people on these low carbohydrates swear by them and say they're the best thing to ever happen to them. What's so special about them?

Low Carbohydrates and the People Who Swear by Them
"Why a low carb diet? Simple. It makes me feel healthier and I have a lot more energy. A lot of people think the term low carbohydrates means starving yourself. That's not true, it just means you watch what you eat more carefully. Not all carbs are good for you, but not all carbs are bad for you either. The key is know when to eat what carbs. For instance, eating more complex carbs keeps you full longer, that's why you want to eat them for breakfast, to get a head start in the morning. Starting your day off right will help you during the day to not feel so sluggish and lazy." Beth

"When it comes to the low carbohydrate diet, there is nothing wrong with it, as long as you know what you're doing. The last thing you want to do is get on a diet and don't know what you're doing. When it comes to cutting out certain aspects of your food intake, you don't want to do it haphazardly. Ask your doctor first and see what he says. You want to have a healthy diet, but you don't want it to turn against you. And low carbohydrates diets are tricky. Be careful and safe."
